Why do you need S.I.S Ltd?
The Health and Safety in Employment Act (HASE) imposes a general duty of care over employers, owners of properties and those in control of a place of work including school Board of Trustees and any Contractor that employs a sub-contractor to take all practical steps to ensure that they are maintaining a safe workplace.
This means you must:
- Have an effective system to Identify hazards, must involve employees, and be regular and systematic.
- Take all practical steps to Eliminate hazards e.g. by repairing or replacing faulty or hazardous machinery.
- Where elimination is impossible, Isolate the hazard e.g. by placing a physical barrier between employees and the hazard.
- Where elimination and isolation are impossible, Minimise the hazard and protect employees e.g. by providing adequate warnings, training, and protective equipment.
In addition you must have a system in place to monitor the control of those hazards. Many organisations are not in a position to have a dedicated employee responsible for Health and Safety and so it becomes a bolt on to another function such as HR. The danger of this scenario is that some times the employee given the responsibility may not have the depth and breadth of knowledge to fully protect the workforce, the organisation or its property. How to lower your ACC Levies
